Desktops & Images - Digital Imaging, Old School:

When everyone else made the move to digital photography, I went out and bought a 35mm SLR. While going digital certainly has its advantages, there are a few shortcomings and flaws that I just can't accept. While the technology of CCDs has gotten better, with higher resolutions and greater latitude, the problems still exist. Until things change, I'll be shooting film for my mission critical work. I have acquired a digital camera that I will be using for quick shots. We'll see how that works out.

Below are some of the more artistic photos I have taken. Feel free to download them and use them as desktop wallpaper. I have resized the images to some of the more popular display resolutions. Enjoy.

This was an experiment with long exposures. This photo was taken with the PowerShot.

Graffiti

Graffiti

The railroad tracks run under Route 1 near the Super Dragon chinese restaurant in Pawtucket, RI. I've been waiting for the perfect time to capture the light from the setting sun as it illuminates some great graffiti. While this was the right time of day, it is the wrong time of year. The sunlight is coming in at a slight angle. This photo was taken with the PowerShot.

McCoy Stadium

McCoy Stadium

The Pawtucket Red Sox play at a ball park very close to my home. On more than one occasion, I have thought that it was picturesque when the sun would go just below the horizon and the stadium lights would illuminate the field. Well, I finally brought a camera with me to capture that image at their 2009 home opener. This photo was taken with the PowerShot.

This rusty old filing cabinet caught some nice light during the early part of a sunset.

Leaf Hopper

Leaf Hopper

This tiny little bugger and several of his closest friends were hanging out on a leafy vine one afternoon. I have never seen a leaf hopper of this color before.

Film 2

Film 2

The second of two images made from the exposed end of a roll of film. If you have a dual-monitor setup, these two images work well together.

Film

This interesting image was created when a roll of film got exposed to light. A few quick adjustments were applied in Photoshop.

Rotting Bulkhead

Rotting Bulkhead

A close-up of an old wooden door on a cellar bulkhead. The rotting wood offered some great textures and subtle colors.

Gold Bug

Gold Bug

This bronze beetle was found in the driveway of my old apartment. With a little help from BugGuide.net and WhatsThatBug.com, I learned that this is a Metallic Wood-Boring Beetle.
